Crime and Coloring Season 2 Episode 49--The East Hill and Suncook Tragedies Part 2

Hello my true crime and crafty friends. I'm back today with the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey used to say. We are going back to Vermont and the death of Marietta and the hopeful conclusion to her story.

But before we talk crime, let's talk coloring. The rest of the story is kind of a lot, so I chose the most detailed stamp I could find, and used the slowest coloring medium, to me. I chose the Honey Bee Stamps Bountiful Banner stamp with it's coordinating die set.

You can buy it here:

I stamped the main image in Honey Bee's intense black ink on Neenah Classic crest solar white 80 pound cardstock. Any good quality cardstock would do.

I left the stamp in my MISTY because I wanted to over stamp it when I was done coloring, because I am coloring with my Prismacolor pencils. and pencil wax tends to cloud the stamped image.

I chose three different green combinations for the greenery in the image and a purple combination and a yellow combination for the flowers. This is a greenery heavy design. These are my color combinations:

When I color with my pencils, I first try to remember to hold the pencil farther up the barrel than usual. It is important not to push to hard on the tip of the pencil or you flatten the fibers of the paper and the pigment will not be able to fill in the space you want to color. This also means that you have to go over it more than one time. Today I colored each part of the image two time, but a larger image might require three or more passes.

Once the coloring was complete, I added the paper back into my MISTY and covered it with anti static powder.

I want the over stamping to be in a rose gold embossing powder.

I choose rose gold instead of any other color because if then heat tool.

The rose gold embossing powder I used is from Simon Says Stamp.

You can buy it here:

Then I used the same embossing powder and Versamark ink to add the sentiment to the banner in the middle of the image.

After the heat embossing was complete, I arranged the coordinating die on the plates to my Empress machine and die cut the whole image.

You can buy the die set here:

Then I placed the card panel on front of a purple, US A 2 card base with a bunch of foam squares. It is a top folding, portrait style card measuring 5 1/2 inches by 4 1/4 inches.

And here is the finished card.

Now on to the crime. Last time we met, we talked about the disappearance and murder of beloved schoolteacher Marietta Ball.

Marietta disappeared walking home after the school week ended in July 1874. Early that Sunday morning, her body was found in the woods near the last place she was seen alive.

She had been badly beaten, sexually assaulted and then killed. Her murder pitted those who lived on the Hill of St. Albans against those who lived in the village. It was the wealthy against the not wealthy. And the lead investigator had little to no experience investigating crimes, and his own opinion often took place of technique. Not to mention that some of those who were "in charge" had their own agenda.

And that's where we left off. To here the rest of the story, and watch the coloring, click here:
