Birthday Card with Doodlebug Stamps and Old School Stamping

Hello my crafty friends. I'm back with another card created using the ever handy spread sheet and random number generator. The brand this week is Doodlebug Designs, the product is layered stamping, the technique is card sketch, the color pallet is from the Sara Renea Clark color cube, the theme is birthday and the extra is brads.

I only have one Doodlebug stamp set and it is a sold image set. It's this race car and motorcycle set with coordinating dies.

Because they are not layering stamps, I had to think out side the box, and decided to try an old school technique. Layered stamping with one stamp and layers of ink.

The color combination comes from the Sarah Renea Clark color cube #1 card 111.

I did look on Pinterest and found an older card sketch from the Doodlebug blog. It's from quite a few years ago, and I think it's even a scrapbook layout challenge.

The first thing I did was to add this rusty red cardstock panel into my MISTY and covered it with anti static powder. I the stamped the wheel from the set all over the page and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.

Then I added a scrap of white card stock to my MISTY and began the stamping. I used the blue and green colors from the color inspiration. First I stamped the front of the car in the lightest blue ink and used a mostly dry baby wipe to soften the edge. I added a couple of layers of light blue ink.

Then I added the darker blue ink to the center part of the car. Again I blurred the edges with the wipe, and my finger.

And last, I added the green ink to the end of the car.

After the green ink was added, I went back with the light blue ink and added another layer to the whole car trying to blur the edges.

Then I cut it out with the coordinating die.

Then original plan was to have the stamped strip of white card stock go along the center of the card like in the sketch. At the last minute I grabbed a piece of dark gray card stock and trimmed a piece to about 1 3/4 inches by 5 1/2 inches. Then I stamped the flame from the set onto the gray piece with versamark ink just to add a little something to the background.

I then cut the gray strip into three squares about 1 5/8 inches wide and centered them on the card front.

Before I added the car to the front of the card, I needed to add the brads. The card sketch shows some bling in the top left area so I added the square brads from my stash to that location. I needed to poke a hole in the card panel with my pokey tool first.

I added the brads and used my tweezers to open the prongs. It was going to necessary to add the card panel to the card base with foam tape because of the brads, so I pulled out my Altenew foam tape and added it all over to the back of the panel.

I then added glue to the foam tape and I'm glad I did because a little wiggle room was necessary today.

One the card panel was attached, I added foam tape to the car and added it to the card.

The last thing was to add the sentiment. I stamped it on a scrap of white card stock in versaclare ink and cut a banner in the left end. I added it to the card with double sided adhesive.

Then I thought the car needed a little shimmer so I added some wink of stella glitter. And that was that.

Here is the finished card.
